A Common Place for Discussion
This blog is intended to allow us all to discuss plans for the rennovation of Mom and Dad's kitchen without Dad having to be on the phone around Mom. It is also intended to allow Cydney and Ken to participate. It is a private blog and cannot be accessed without an invitation from me. You have all been invited because as well as added as contributors so that you can post. You should all receive e-mails when a new post goes up as well as when comments are made. If it is urgent that we read what you posted please send a text to the whole group and mom that reads "BBQ Sauce" and thanks to Dave Steed for that one. I will take care of the story with Mom, we are going to say that it happened at the party at Nat and Dave's that he was randomly saying it. The idea is that she will think it is just a joke when we all know it is that and a signal.
Last, PLEASE DO NOT PUT LINKS FOR THIS ON YOUR BLOGS UNLESS YOU CAN DISGUISE IT SO THAT MOM WON'T NOTICE IT. I will have a link under the "How We Spend our Time" Heading on my blog that says Piano Gallery. If you click on that it will take you to this blog!

I think we should go with the same paint that Natalie's friend used. She should know whether to prime or not. If we think we want to antique, I suspect no primer.
She said we could do two things... 1- Paint with a flat paint, and then use a clear coat when finished. Or 2- Paint with a gloss or semi-gloss and be done. I think if we are going to antique them, we should probably do the flat and clear coat (that's what she did).
Plus she stained the edges where she sanded/antiqued, that way it isn't the original color of the wood. i don't think that would have been a huge issue before, but now that a lot of those edges have been sanded.. who knows
We could paint them with flat, and go ahead and clear coat the inside since it won't be antiqued. That way we can put everything back inside. Then we can leave the outside for you and mom to decide the level of antiquing, and then come back and clear coat it all once you do what you are gonna do?
Let's do the flat black with clear coat.
That also allows us to sand out brush strokes before clear coating if we have to. That will be a bigger issue on the doors than the cabinet bases.
So maybe you should only do the flat coat. Mom and dad can antique as much as they want and then you can do the clear coat after.
Thanks Cyd. That was my point, I guess I just wasn't very clear!! I would still suggest finishing inside all the way, that way we can load it all back up!
How far you go will probably be determined by the available time.
I would like to have the cabinet bases finished if we can. You guys will have to use your best judgement about how much antiquing to do.
However, finishing everything else and getting the cabinets painted flat is the first order of business. Any antiquing and clear coating is gravy.
I agree. Finish inside at the least.
