A Common Place for Discussion

This blog is intended to allow us all to discuss plans for the rennovation of Mom and Dad's kitchen without Dad having to be on the phone around Mom. It is also intended to allow Cydney and Ken to participate. It is a private blog and cannot be accessed without an invitation from me. You have all been invited because as well as added as contributors so that you can post. You should all receive e-mails when a new post goes up as well as when comments are made. If it is urgent that we read what you posted please send a text to the whole group and mom that reads "BBQ Sauce" and thanks to Dave Steed for that one. I will take care of the story with Mom, we are going to say that it happened at the party at Nat and Dave's that he was randomly saying it. The idea is that she will think it is just a joke when we all know it is that and a signal.

Last, PLEASE DO NOT PUT LINKS FOR THIS ON YOUR BLOGS UNLESS YOU CAN DISGUISE IT SO THAT MOM WON'T NOTICE IT. I will have a link under the "How We Spend our Time" Heading on my blog that says Piano Gallery. If you click on that it will take you to this blog!

Home Depot Lighting Options

These are the best options at the Home Depot for track lighting. Please tell me what you think. We are planning to send a photo of a fixture from IKEA and we are also planning to go to Lowe's and get our options there as well.

These first two photos are of your basic standard white track lighting. The first one shows the whole track with all four light styles. The second picture shows all four of the lights. (I think the prices in these photos are just for the track and then the lights are a per light price, but I don't know all of the individual prices. I will look if there is one that interests you.)

These next two are a silver light fixture that is almost a brushed nickle in appearance, which is very similar to the finish of all of the hardware and fixtures in my house, except the sink faucets, to help you picture it better. The two we are looking at are the two at the very top. One is at the back of the display and very long. Style wise I like it, but think it will be too long for the kitchen and it only has four lights. The second one is the one in the front of the display with five lights. This one is my personal favorite. We couldn't get a good close-up since they were up so high, so the next two photos after this one are of the box.

Price tag for this one is $89 and the second one is $119 and I did manage a close-up of the shorter one. The long one was too long for a close-up.

Last but not least, most of the tracks are too long for the lighting above the sink, or don't match any of the longer tracks. Another option is a pendant light such as this one. The glass matches the glass on the ceiling fan that we were talking about. (The ceiling fan is the same as the one in my family room, I will post a photo tomorrow to remind you of its appearance.)

Cyd - Are you saying the silver ones are the ones like in wilsonville? I is sorry you are sick. I am as well... perfect timing! GRR!

I thought so, but then I found the picture. I really like those silver ones though.

I know Mom says she wants 8 lights on her new track lighting, the only thing is, all of the decorative ones come with either 4 or 5 fixed lights. The plain tracks you can put more on, but I don't think 8 will work on them either. You can put up 2 sets of 4 like in the Wilsonville picture, but then you have to do more electrical work. Your thoughts?

"I want eight lights," means "I want lots of lights."

If five is the most, that is fine. What we need to figure out is what to do above the sink. Will one of the "standard" ones work there if we cut the track down? Can we do that? Can we put two lights on it?

Also, remember this does ot have to be the "be all, end all." If she decides five is not enough, we can make the more drastic change later.

I will post more later from my computer. It is hard to see and write on the Blackberry.

I guess I like the smaller of the two "S" curve fixtures best of these. Kindof the least worst option. I wasn't really keen on any of these.

Let's see what IKEA and Lowes has.

Also, what does the ceiling look like under the big ol' light?

I'm not sure what it looks like under there. We were already gone when Dwayne was just getting there to work, so that info will have to come from the Lunts or the Rebster. Jes is going to Lowes today, as well as the lighting store they got all of their office lights from, and I am stopping at IKEA on my way to the doctor in just about an hour and a half. We should both have more options posted by this afternoon. hopefully curtain rod pictures as well.

Dad, maybe you should get on the websites for lowes and Ikea and other places and find something you like. They have pictures on there and then Jes and Nat won't have to drive around trying to guess what you want.

I don't think you can cut down that track. From what I have seen they have 2' and 4' and 8'
